Military History
The applicant's military history will be examined. Derogatory information such as, but not limited to poor performance, disciplinary actions, and reason and terms of dismissal will normally be evaluated on a case by case basis.
The applicant will be asked to provide his/her Selective Service number to the investigator. If the applicant has served in the armed forces, he she will be need to inform the investigator whether it was in an active duty, national guard or reserve capacity. The branch of the armed forces, dates of service and type of discharge will also be required.
The applicant’s current armed forces status will also be asked. If the applicant is currently serving as a reserve unit or with his/her state’s National Guard will also need to be disclosed.
The applicant will also be asked if he/she has ever been the subject of any non-judicial or judicial disciplinary action. If so, the applicant will need to provide the background investigator with the approximate date of the action, the branch of the armed forces involved, and a complete detailed explanation of the circumstances.
Copies of any awards or certificates received while serving in the military may be asked for. The applicant will also be required to provide a copy of his/her DD-214 to the background investigator.
