Academic History

The applicant's secondary and post-secondary educational history will be examined.  Derogatory information such as, but not limited to, course failures, suspensions, expulsions, campus or academic offenses or probations and withdrawals will normally be evaluated on a case by case basis.

Transcripts from the applicant’s college, and depending on the department possibly high school, will be requested. Persons whom have knowledge of the applicant’s educational history or learning environment, (i.e., teachers, counselors, school administrators and/or former classmates), may also be contacted during this phase.

The applicant will be questioned regarding any disciplinary actions taken against them while a student. The investigator will need to know what type of disciplinary action was taken, when the action took place, the name of the school in which the action occurred, and a detailed description of the circumstances surrounding the action. While some departments only request college transcripts, many ask for any disciplinary actions that may have taken place during high school as well.

The investigator will also need the name and complete address of all schools the applicant had attended beginning with high school. It is wise for the applicant to ensure that all addresses and telephone numbers are up to date as this will aid the investigator and expedite this portion of the background investigation.
